“THE NIGHT BRINGS DREAMS A VISION WOVEN INTO REALITY”
Bruce Bennett’s Darts sculpture is a message to the gods. The work was conceived from the sacred prayer arrows, or muvieri, associated with the Huichol (Wixárika) people of Mexico and their traditional pilgrimage to Wirikuta. The approximately 500-mile journey leads to the sacred high-desert region of Wirikuta in San Luis Potosí, where pilgrims seek spiritual renewal, maintain cosmic balance, heal the relationship between humanity and nature, and receive the gift of seeing. Darts was created at Custom Marble and Design during the 2003 One-Ton Symposium.

“Having only the stipulation of making commemorative slabs known as “steles” 10 local artists created sculpture out of locally quarried Tennessee Pink Marble for The· 1st ANNUAL TENNESSEE-TON SHOW. They came up with a variety of styles, ranging from installation and alters to totemic monoliths. Professional artists as well as lay artists and crafts persons participated in THE ONE-TON SHOW. Initially spread throughout the grounds of The Old Candora Marble Company the finished works are now on display at the UT Gardens. “
