Knobbles by Bruce Bennett

Late one winter night, as I looked around at the pieces of turned wood from my furniture business, I imagined knots becoming faces, knobs turning into heads, and oak spindles forming into legs.

Needing Christmas Gifts for friends, I made a few stringless puppets of oak, liickory, and mahogany, joined together with steel eye bolts. Some wore wooden crowns or hats, while others wore round hats with candle holders on top of their heads. The small ones made wooden clacking sounds as their feet bumped together, and others were taller and had long dancing legs.

Each stringless puppet or Knobble is made from solid wood, maple, oak, pine, hickory, and mahogany. Each puppet swings freely, giving them a life of their own, and is finished to a high, clear luster, which highlights the unique grain and knotty patterns of the wood. My Knobbles are modern or traditional toys, puppets, sculptures, collectable dolls, or decorative accessories.
